Family Information Services

Your local Family Information Service (FIS) can provide information on a wide range of family services including childcare, family support and activities in your area

Children’s Centres

Every family with children up to the age of 5, and parents-to-be, can take part in activities, meet people and make friends at their local Children’s Centre. They may offer play sessions, advice, support and learning for parents and carers, child and family health services, and support for young parents. Ask your midwife or health visitor for more information or get in touch with your local Children’s Centre directly.

Your Local Authority

Can help you find housing during your pregnancy. Some local authorities provide specialised accommodation where young mothers can live independently while getting support and advice from trained workers.

Family Lives – Family and parenting support

Formerly Parentline Plus. The free and confidential helpline give information, advice, guidance and support on any aspect of parenting and family life, including bullying. Offers counselling services; support & information on housing, benefits, sexual health and job searching & CV writing for those 16 to 25 years who live in York. They offer free condoms, pregnancy testing, chlamydia screening, and support for teen parents. All services are free and confidential. They are based at 29 Castlegate, York YO1 9RN.
